Perlite Expansion Plant

When expanded at high temperature, perlite is transformed into a lightweight, porous industrial product with strong insulation properties. It is widely used in the construction, agriculture, filtration, textile and industrial sectors. Quality production requires the correct process, precise temperature control and robust automation.

IPS Makina designs and builds turnkey perlite expansion plants tailored to the investor's site conditions, fuel type, capacity requirements and target product range.

What is Perlite?

Perlite is a naturally occurring mineral of volcanic origin that contains chemically bound water. When heated to high temperatures, it expands and its volume increases many times over. The resulting product is lightweight, thermally insulating and low-density. For these reasons, expanded perlite is preferred as a lightweight plaster aggregate, insulation material, horticultural soil conditioner and filtration aid.

IPS Makina Perlite Plant Advantages

• High-efficiency expansion technology
• Low fuel consumption
• Stable temperature control system
• Full PLC / SCADA automation
• Production capability across different particle sizes
• Low maintenance cost
• Continuous and stable capacity
• Automatic packaging integration
• Custom project design for each investment

Production Process

1. Crushing & Screening: Raw perlite from the quarry is reduced to the appropriate particle size.
2. Drying: Moisture content is reduced to prepare the ideal raw material for expansion.
3. Storage: The prepared material is held in silos or hoppers under controlled conditions.
4. Rocket Feeder: Raw perlite is fed precisely into the expansion furnace via a frequency-controlled system.
5. Expansion: Rapid expansion is achieved at high temperature, yielding lightweight and porous perlite.
6. Packaging or Transfer: The product can be bagged or transferred to the next unit in the line.

Automation System

IPS Makina perlite plants operate with full automation. Operators can manage the entire line from the SCADA screen:

  • Temperature values,
  • Motor operating status,
  • Feed rates,
  • Alarm and safety controls,
  • Production monitoring.
